GW Parkway

In the, um, month since my last post, I've had a couple interesting experiences.

One fun thing that happened this month was that Jon and Rachel (my brother-in-law and sister) stopped by one weekend on their way back up to State College.  Jon had an internship in Virginia and they are returning to Penn State for the year.

We didn't do a whole lot besides eat, watch some olympics on-line (since I still have not bothered to pursue any type of TV reception), they went to church with me Sunday morning, and then we cooked lunch Sunday afternoon.  It was fun having them here.

I had another visitor later that week as well.  This is a pretty good one...

I help out with a "Teen Club" outreach at my church on Wednesday nights.  It's primarily youth that are unchurched from the community.  This particular Wednesday night one of the girls brought a guy that she knew from visiting her Mom in Las Vegas.  Turns out, Delta lost his luggage in which was much of his money.  This presented a bit of a problem once he arrived at Reagan airport in D.C., especially once his ride bailed on him.  After catching a taxi to Waynesboro from D.C. and staying a night in a hotel he ended up pretty much broke.  So here he is at our Wednesday evening gathering trying to figure out how he's going to get back to D.C.

Long story short, he ended up staying at my place until his flight on Saturday (couldn't get his ticket changed) and I ended up running him down.  I could do it much cheaper than the $140 he would have had to spend on a van service.  Anyway, so on a Saturday D.C. is less than a 1 1/2 hour drive from my place, if anyone is interested in planning a field trip.  :)

Busy week

Well, a lot has been going on for me over the past 7-10 days.

Last weekend I had a fun time with Daniel B. who came down Friday night and spent the weekend with me.  We spent time together at my apartnment and also hung out doing some mini golf, go-carts, and then attended a couple events that friends of mine were involved in Saturday night.  We had a good time and I even got to meet a couple people that were new to me (everyone was new to him).

This week I had a short week at work and then I was supposed to stand before a board for the Baltimore Recruiting Batallion.  For those of you that don't know, I have been pursuing a direct commission as an officer into an Army Engineer unit.  This has been a lot more difficult than I expected.  As much as they claim to need people, the Army has been making it next to impossible for me to join.  The latest screw up was that they cancelled my board on Thursday.  So instead, I joined my familiy early in Williamsburg, Va.

We got to see some of Colonial Williamsburg and I also got to visit with my sister and brother-in-law who are living in Norfolk, Va this summer.  It was really good to see them again and it was also really good to have a break from some of the stress at work.  A year ago I would have had a hard time imagining that I would have enough responsibility to generate stress, but now it is a lot different.

Well, have a great week.  Talk to you later.

I'm Still Here

As much as I appreciate those who actually update their blogs, I figure I should return the favor.  I'll even try to make the next blog happen sooner than two months.

Boy, what's been going on?  I guess the major thing that happened since my last post was that my sister got married on May 10.  I was one of the best men which was a lot of fun.  The reception was held in a barn which was really neat and Rachel and Jon did a really great job planning the decorations.  It was a great time with friends and celebrating what God has done in Joh and Rachel and their families.

A week ago (June 15-21) I was in western PA (near Myersdale, which is south of Johnstown) counceling at a church camp.  The camp was a teen camp for the Fellowship of Grace Brethren Churches Mid-Atlantic District and was held at Camp Albryoca.  It was a good break from the routine for me and a lot of fun.  I also got to know some other people from the district.  On the way home I stopped by Raystown to visit the Crouses and get pulled around the lake on their boat.  They were attempting to teach me to water ski.  I believe we were finally successful even if my body was still feeling the effects of the ride several days later.

Well, until the next time...

Cars and Stuff

Boy, its been a while.  I have had quite a few things happen since I last posted, largely because its been a really long time since my last post.

Lets see, I guess the major news is that I'm now on my fourth vehicle since I moved here.  March 1, I met with tim223 and sarabelle7 and a couple of their freinds at the ABWE headquarters and we took a tour of the facility.  That was pretty neat and it was good to see some familiar faces again.  I also got an inside look at sarabelle7's "office", the Heart and Vascular ICU.

But anyway, back to the car.  On the way home, I was about 6 or 7 miles out from Waynesboro on a back road and I was going a little too fast and lost it on a turn.  Long story short, I totaled my Mazda, primarily due to front end damage.  I was unhurt and more concerned about the car than myself at that point.

So, that was a pretty low night (well, actually morning) but God was faithful.  A friend from church picked me up (at about 0130) and I stayed with him and his family that night.  Then at church another friend offered to let me drive his and his wife's extra vehicle.  So I had transportation to work while I was working out what happened with my car.

Two weeks later, my dad picked me up and we ran up to New York to buy another vehicle.  It is basically the same car but a year older.  I learned a very valuable lesson about how fragile life is and that God is faithful, often through his people.

So at this point things are kind of back to normal, aside from working out the final details with finances from the insurance company.

So, thank you logcabinlady for reminding me that I need to keep you all up to date.  And hopefully I'll be in touch sooner than later.

Hello all.  Life is, well, life at the moment.  Nothing  exraordinary to report at the moment.  There is now a new neighbor living downstairs from me.   I helped her family move her in Sunday afternoon.  I met her briefly, but spent some time with her dad and brothers moving furniture in.  She seems to be nice.  I have not seen her since Sunday, she leaves every day before I get up (which is early) and I haven't seen her out of the apartment in the evenings.  This isn't that unusual since it is cold out.  But overall, no complaints other than I have to be conscious again of how loud I play my stereo.

I also gave my truck to a guy from church who needed a vehicle.  I'm glad to see it being used by someone, although I don' t have a vehicle to tinker with anymore.  Everything still works on the Mazda.  Which is a phenomenon I am still getting used to.

Anyway, I guess one phase-of-life change this past month is that I was finally officially "dismissed" as a member of Faith Baptist Church.  This was done at the request of my current church and myself, as I don't think I have any reason to be a member of two churches at the same time.  This was a sad thing, but also exciting as I see that God is establishing me in a path he wants me to follow.

Well, until I post again...
